Give Your Home Cozy Vibes In 4 Easy Steps

Who would have thought we would be spending so much time indoors, especially with warmer days just around the corner? We are in very unusual and stressful times. As anxiety levels rise, making sure our home is a healthy place that is providing us peace, security and comfort is important for our mental well-being.

Our homes should be an enjoyable, a happy place to live, laugh and grow. It should be a place where you feel secure, loved and safe. We’ve all heard the saying a “home is more than just a house” but in fact, it is more a feeling.  I believe your home should feel as though it is giving you big hug!

Now is the perfect time to convert your home into that perfect comfortable space that we all need it to be. Rest assured, there is no need to invest a ton of money, repaint the entire room or start breaking down walls. Making your space unique, comfortable and cozy can be done with these 4 Simple Steps:

1. Create Yourself A “Wellness” Space

Do you have a space in your home where you can really center yourself?  An area where you can perhaps snuggle up and read, or meditate or journal and basically feel at peace? I feel as though during these stressful times where most of us are navigating through working from home, homeschooling and everything in between, it is imperative to have a place where you can “unplug” and “recharge.”  It does not have to be an entire room; it can simply be a corner with comfortable pillows along with a few objects that are close to your heart. Add in a comfortable chair, a bean bag or an ottoman, place a few cozy pillows and you have yourself a Zen spot! The whole idea is to create a space where you can relax and de-stress.

Add in an accent table to hold candles, incense or an essential oil diffuser for that added “calming smell”. It has been proven that smell plays a significant role in making us feel relaxed and content.  Try smells like lavender, pine or fresh citrus smells which are known to relieve stress and decrease anxiety.

Having a happy place where you can relax and ground yourself is something that can eventually become part of your morning ritual in order to start the day right, or a place to catch your breath after a stressful day.

2. Treat Yourself to New Plants

It’s springtime, plants are great for the mood and are a great décor piece!

The whole idea behind adding in plants to a space is that it adds an organic element to your area. Adding in greenery will have an impact on the general feel of the room making it feel fresh, clean and more ALIVE!

But don’t worry if you don’t have a green thumb (full disclosure: neither do I!) There are plants that need very little care. If you decide to go faux instead of real plants, it will still add that organic feel. You can use aloe vera plants or snake plants which are very trendy right now and are great examples of plants that require less care.

To up your décor, add these plants to decorative planters. Use a Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree in a beautiful textured planter to add life to a forgotten corner of the room or place the plant in beautiful basket you already own to create a more relaxed vibe.

If you are a bit skeptical about bringing in a plant, try testing the waters with a simple bouquet of flowers in a colorful vase! You’d be surprised to see how uplifting and cheerful a vase of blooms placed on your table can really be!

3. Snuggle Up with New Pillows & Throws

Having our homes feel cozy and almost like a cocoon is the main objective of adding soft textured accents. Adding in multiple layers of comfort and warmth to your décor using pillows and throws is the easiest way to do so.  What better way than to be literally enveloped into a gorgeous soft throw and soft pillows after a long stressful day! Or to snuggle up with a faux fur blanket to binge watch your favorite Netflix shows!

Having multiple throw cushions on the couch or bed and being able to just melt into them after a stressful day is exactly what we all really need right now. Adding in different textures and keeping the colors light and bright will bring in that cheerful spring feel into your space. Try adding in linens and vibrant patterns with lighter tones to create a more open feel in your space.

You don’t need to immediately go out (or online!) to buy something right away, instead try swapping out the cushions you already have from room to room. Then consider investing in a few pieces that will give your room that extra luxe feel!

4. Hang it Up

Cover those empty walls with a little love. Use a new frame on an empty wall or finally hang up that art piece you bought years ago from your travels.  Maybe some art that the kids did for you? The simplest things can become art around the house. Use the top of a basket to create a little boho vibe or a geometric print that you found online in a frame.

Framing pictures that have meaning to you is a great way to add personality to your space. They can be family portraits, a landscape of a favorite destination, an inspiring quote or a postcard that you love.

Replacing décor that has lost meaning to you is a great way to give your walls a fresh look.

There are countless ways of placing these pieces on your walls, but the most common and easiest way is in the form of a gallery wall or simply creating an asymmetric shape.

My advice is to place it out on the floor and decide the pattern that works best for you before hanging them up. You can also mix it up with a combination of art pieces and shelving to create a bit of drama!
